Setting:
The Institute is located high in the Berkeley hills just north of the U.C. Berkeley campus, with a panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay.
Reception Desk:
Among the many activities of the front desk staff is answering questions and recording reservations for classes and retreats.

Bookstore:
The bookstore has an excellent selection of Buddhist titles, including Buddhist books for children. You can also find books on Tibetan culture and language, Tibetan art reproductions, cards, Tibetan prayer flags, Tibetan incense, and other unique gift items.An online selection of Buddhist books and other Dharma items can be found at Dharma Publishing.
Meditation Garden:
This peaceful rose-filled garden contains one of the largest prayer wheels in the western hemisphere and the Nyingma Institute Enlightenment Stupa. Walk among the flowers or sit and appreciate the water lilies and carp in the pond. Come visit the garden from 10AM-6:PM, or enjoy it during a residential retreat, while attending a workshop, or before Institute classes.
Meditation Hall:
The Institute's main meditation room was designed by the founder of the institute, Tarthang Tulku. The room is filled with many traditional Tibetan thankas and sculptures created by Institute residents and advisors. Classes and chants are held here. It is a place that greatly supports and enhances meditation practice and study.
"New House":
The "New House" is a newer wing of the Institute that includes a wheel chair accessible meditation room and residential rooms.
Residential Rooms:
Individuals staying overnight at the Institute for retreats or workshops enjoy simple, comfortable rooms that either face the meditation garden or command a view of the San Francisco Bay.
Kitchen:
The Institute kitchen serves delicious vegetarian food to community members and retreat participants. The Institute can accommodate special dietary needs with advance notice.
Art Projects:
The Nyingma Institute is also the site for ongoing Tibetan art projects. Currently the Institute is making Tibetan prayer flags. Recent projects include the creation of stupas, and the creation of over 10,000 small ceramic statues of Avalokiteshvara - embodiment of compassion. The general public is warmly invited to participate in these art projects! Simply call the Institute to arrange a time that you can help out and enjoy the experience of creating these beautiful and inspiring images. Participants on retreats also have the opportunity to work on these projects as part of the work practice element of their retreat experience.
